Description

KENNEDY, John Fitzgerald
WANTED FOR TREASON

Two photographic portraits of President Kennedy (full face and profile), bold heading, seven articles of indictment in two columns, printed on pale pink paper. Quarter red morocco protective case. A rare inflammatory handbill, written by one Robert A. Surrey and printed surreptitiously by an employee at a Dallas lithographic printing firm. According to later testimony to the Warren Commission, some 5,000 copies of the handbill were printed and distributed on the streets of Dallas, Texas, beginning a few days before Kennedy's scheduled visit which ended in his assassination. Rare poster, circulated in Dallas at the time of John F. Kennedy's November 1963 visit. Poster proclaims, ''WANTED FOR TREASON'' below two front and profiel photographs of Kennedy, and makes seven charges against him, including ''Betraying the Constitution'' and being ''lax in enforcing Communist Registration laws.'' The Warren Commission investigated the document, and determined that a man named Surrey printed approximately 5,000 of them in handbill size, but that Surrey had no connection to Oswald. Despite this, questions regarding the connection of Dallas-extremists associated with the handbills to Oswald have persisted. Very few of the handbills now exist, as the vast majority were destroyed before Kennedy was killed. Even fewer of the larger size posters were printed, of which this is an example. Poster measures 74 x 58 cm and has the same content on the verso, in Italian. Some foxing and folds, some restoration with acid-free tape. Small holes at the fold intersections. Overall in a reasonable condition.

Open measures 73x57 cm. Folded in four, very good condition
