Description

GERMAN FOUNDRY, XIX CENTURY

Eve.
Inspired by a design by Conrad Meit

Bronze, brown coating. 36 x 12 x 10,5 cm con la base; 33,5 x 12 x 10,5 cm senza base

This exquisite cast shows Eve offering the infamous apple to Adam, symbolizing the original sin.
This is a bronze version of the notorious statue by Conrad Meit, made in 1510 and preserved, together with Adam, at Gotha's Shlossmuseum Friedenstain.
The two original sculptures were carved using boxwood, a premium tree free of any kind of grain and with a delightful red hue, and are considered among the craftsman's masterpieces.
Naked, Eve is showing her sexual attributes. Observe the lifelike quality of her breasts, as well as the intricate design of her braided hairdo, inspired by Norse culture.
This bronze is an antique replica, faithful to the original. We can cautiously date it to the XIX century.
