German ivory and silver tankard -
Augsburg 17th century, mark of ULRICH BOAS


Silver and elephant ivory (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758 or Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797); ivory body carved with a representation of the triumphal parade of Charles VII and Joan of Arc, handle carved in the form of a female herm and lid topped with a figure in the round. Circular foot and silver lid with thumbpiece.
Hallmarked with the silver marks in use in Augsburg (Germany) in the 17th century, silversmith Ulrich Boas.
Height 31.5 cm, foot 16 x 14.5 cm. Weight 1081 g.
Item condition grading: **** good.

Accompanied by Ce.S.Ar. Centro Studi Archeometrici certificate of authenticity and by CITES certificate.
