A roman carnelian agate intaglio, mounted in an ancient gold ring. Bust of Mercury, turned to the left, with the petasos on his head and the caduceus on his shoulder. Natural black inclusions in the red stone. Mirror-finish polishing. Gold mounting/setting with flattened and jutting hoop. 2nd - 3rd century A.D.
Intaglio 8 x 9 x 2 mm; ring diam. 14 x 18 mm; gr. 9,16.
