A roman red jasper intaglio. Gryllos. The hybrid creature is composed of a head of Silenus held up by rooster legs; above is an equine protome (the quadruped is in the act of chewing a twig). A cornucopia is also part of the composition.. Apotropaic and auspicious depiction. Ground line. 2nd - 3rd century A.D.
